This cohort is designed to provide practical instruction and teaching to equip and prepare those who are in the early stages of church planting. We will also provide a context for church planters to share their experiences with others in the same stage of church planting and for the group to benefit from the insight, accountability and encouragement of the group.
Joel Brooks is the Lead Pastor of Redeemer Community Church in Birmingham, Alabama. He is married to Lauren and has three children – Caroline (14), Natalie (11), and Georgia (8). The Brooks moved from Atlanta to Birmingham 20 years ago so Joel could attend Beeson Divinity School where he received his MDiv. in 1999. After graduation, Joel founded University Christian Fellowship (UCF). After establishing and serving nine years with UCF, the Brooks felt the Lord leading them to plant a church in East Birmingham. For months, they gathered with friends in their home to seek God’s heart concerning this possibility. On March 30, 2008, Redeemer Community Church’s first service was held in their home.
Retreat dates: January 16th-18th in Birmingham, AL.
